I was a serious late-comer to the television program Lost. I had tried many times to watch it, but with a 6 year old and 20 minutes of comercials in the average program, I got VERY confused. I kept saying, “Well, I’m lost.” And my family would crack up at me.
When I was in Chicago, our library had all the seasons available to watch, and I did a Lost marathon while my son was at school. I am now addicted, and with my cable finally working and DVR programmed, I am ready for the final season.
About once a month I pop over the Jorge Garcia’s blog, and I just laughed my behind off at this video:

I was driving along this morning and a trickster (coyote) crossed in front of me in the rabbit brush on the other side of the road. Along with the instant thought that it was unusual seeing trickster out in broad daylight, I thought of the safety of others, quickly pulling over and warning the elderly woman walking her dog to be careful.
I did my business, and drove back the way I came to still find trickster in the rabbit brush. I watched him/her for awhile, looking a bit lost and forlorn, and then went on my way (if I had the number to animal control, I would have reported it, but knew that others inside a building had spotted him/her also and would most likely call).
Every once in awhile I get the urge to write a blog post that best be left in a journal or even better yet in my head. I was thinking about that when I saw trickster. And wondered, is this a sign that I should just keep my mouth shut, or write anyway?
I had recently upacked and old set of medicine cards with the book, and decided to give myself a lesson in trickster, other than what I already knew.
Trickster is certainly a lesson about yourself. And unfortunately the coyote is a master at trickery, and takes it so seriously that he often fools himself. He goes on, drama after drama, forgetting to learn from his mistakes, and repeats them over and over.
A few lines in the book really jumped out at me: Coyote takes himself so seriously at times that he can not see the obvious, he refines the art of self-sabotage to sheer perfection, no one can blindly do themselves or others in with more grace and ease than the trickster. And lastly, get ready for more laughs – lots more.
What a conundrum! The coyote is a perfect pie of opposites colliding, but more importantly it asks you to take the time to be really aware, to question why you want or do the things you do, and why do you keep repeating them, expecting different results. Lastly, the coyote certainly has power, but it doesn’t always work to his advantage.
With that being said, I’ve decided to keep my trap shut, to observe instead of comment, and to laugh instead of taking myself so seriously. A good laugh with certainly feel better than unleashing unorganized thoughts, pent up melodramas that could hurt others, and ultimately, myself. Not that what I am thinking or feeling should be discarded or not acknowledged, but after spending a good chunk of time thinking on it, in the end will it really make a difference? And if I foolishly babble, what would I bring back to myself with that energy? Possibly more of what I don’t want.
Okay, for today, the lesson is learned.
Wow, talk about strange!
What a morning…..
And what a lesson that I needed to be reminded!
Thank you Trickster for gracing me with your insight.
If Wyatt had a choice he would be outside 24/7. And lately he likes to draw in the dirt. Suddenly I remembered I had unpacked some sidewalk chalk. I thought he was going to combust when he saw it!

of course, the smiley face.....
He drew just one smiley face. I don’t know if ya’ll remember, but Wyatt loves smiley faces, so much that he found a sharpie pen and drew them all over the wall (click here if you want to see the smiley face memorial wall).
He went on drawing, and turned to me and said “F”. It took me a moment, but when I looked closely, Wyatt did indeed try to draw the letter F.

wyatt's letter F
Then, I was so stunned that initially I couldn’t even snap pictures, he started writing the letter W everywhere, and kept pointing at it because he can’t say W yet – he signs it.
I was blown away, W was everywhere.

the start of a W

one stroke......

two strokes.......

all four strokes! voila W!
Unbelievable!
Then he stood and went to the gate (I really wished he didn’t write there, but he was on a roll) and started saying the letters as he drew them: H – V – T – U (he even corrected his T).

h, v, t, & u
Amazing!!!!!
All I can say is, you go Wyatt! You are doing a great job!
(Now I have to forward every relative and teacher this blog post so they can see!!!!)

sampler #9 - two grey hills motif in very non-traditional colors
I am about and inch or so away from my halfway point in this weaving. I am going to try very hard to post something every week about what I am learning while I am weaving in the Navajo Way.
I love all styles of Navajo Weavings, but I am drawn to the Two Grey Hills motifs. Traditionally Two Grey Hills colors are black, brown, gray, and white/natural white.

wool - churro and unknown blend
When I started this weaving, I really did want to use traditional colors. The reason I picked these colors is it was what I have on hand! I just can’t justify buying anymore yarn, I have to use up some of my stash, and I have some churro waiting to be spun.
It will be interesting how it will turn out. I am going to try very hard not to point out all my mistakes, I am just happy to be back in the weaving groove.

craft
It was officially announced (by my dear husband) that I am to take over the garage. This was one of the areas of the house I was really excited about. It’s finished with carpeting, electric, cable, and phone. But mostly, I was excited to finally have a place for all my craft stuff.
Even looking at the above picture, I see the bags on top of the bookcase, filled with chamisa, cota, and onion skins we gathered and have collected since fall, and I dream about the colorful wool skeins they will make.

craft
Embarrassed, I must admit that all the plastic buckets are filled with wool. Eventually I would like to put up some shelving, but I want to do things slowly, since we will be in this house FOREVER (I hope).

the rug loom & wool
Dave set up my rug loom for me and I am super excited about starting up with that!

wyatt hanging out with me while unpacking in the garage
I still have to figure out where to put my sewing machines, and started put away fabric. But can I tell you, I am so so so happy.

the tree is real!
We have this fabulous tree growing, and there is irrigation inside the house, manual # gazillion that I need to read.

living room
I tried to snap a picture that included the height in the living room, and again, I need to read the manuals, because we have a handful of remotes. The top blinds, the ceiling fan, home theater system and flat screen all have remotes. And the cable guy came yesterday to fix the cable, and of course, there is a remote for that too.

fireplace
We haven’t tried the fireplace yet (it is gas), but I wish we would tonight! We’ve had some weather (mild by northern standards) but a chill has set in tonight.

entrance to one of the master baths
This is the entrance in to one of the master baths. This bathroom has a tub and toilet too, the other master bath, which I haven’t take pictures of also has a long counter with sink, and a spacious stand in shower. We upgraded the shower head, so it’s pretty nice now! Both have lots of cabinet space.

one of the master bedrooms
This is one of the master bedrooms. The other bedroom is just plain empty (we are hoping to buy another bed shortly, we just have to decide on the brand we want). The first couple nights, Wyatt would not sleep in his room, so his bed is next to ours. As of now, he has spent the past 6 nights in his own room. I think I am having the hardest time adjusting. We always went back and forth about Wyatt having his own room. About two years ago we decided to have a bed for him in our room because of the severity of his illnesses, and his asthma. But now he his doing much better, and wanting his independence!

About 5 minutes after I took this picture, Wyatt removed the table cloth and I have not seen it since! I haven’t taken any pictures of Wyatt’s room, or the second bathroom. So that’s about it. I have another post in the works about the rest of the house (hint: crafts) and I still need to take pictures of the exterior of the house.
We have so few possessions in the way of furniture, but I’m glad, because we can spend a few years looking for the right pieces (and yeah, I need to win some money at the casino, LOL).
The fun part about having kids is this:

had to share yogurt with elmo
Wyatt dunked Elmo’s face into his half eaten yogurt.
BTW – our internet connection finally seems to be working at home so I am looking forward to be online more regularly!
We still have no phone, internet, or cable (which means I have no DVR too – bummer), but it should be up and running by the beginning of next week (so they say)!
In the meantime, here are some pictures of the new home before we started moving stuff in.

I want to wish everyone a blessed and happy New Year. This past year had some incredible and unbelievable changes for us and our family. That being said, I am taking a short hiatus from blogging (2 weeks or less) because the closing on the house is happening today, and we will start moving in tonight! I am unsure about the cable/internet stuff, so as soon as it is all hooked up and on, I will be back regularly.
I have spent the last two months intensely thinking about my blog, and what I want to blog about. I was never good at blogging about one thing, or having multiple blogs for separate things (ie – crafts and cooking) so I officially mixed everything together some time ago.
I love cooking, and I will be diving into serious New Mexican cooking this year (thanks to Sandy!) and will actually attempt to pen my asian style recipes. I had also worked on some of our family recipes this year, but I am having a hard time with the altitude and baking. Once I get that all sorted out, I hope to share some of our old time family recipes (ie – Great Grandma’s Sawdust Cake with Fudge Frosting).
Some time ago I stopped blogging about my son because I was so exhausted from all his care, and I felt like I was complaining and whining all the time. But I realized that while reading others blogs my whining may have been extremely helpful to someone else. So I think it’s time for Wyatt’s story and I will be expanding on what it is like to care for a special needs child.
We also having been helping to care for family that have physical medical needs and dementia/alzheimer’s type situations, and it has been extremely stressful. I would love to blog about it and in hopes ya’ll might have some good advice for me.
The Kimberley Rambles Section will remain the same, mostly photography and the various trips we take around the area. I can officially say that it is highly unlikely that we will move to another state again, and I am ready to dig my feet into becoming truly New Mexican this time around. My heart was always here and I am glad to be back.
And the craft section will continue on forever! I will now have the room to set up my rug loom, and we are very excited about that. I have a secret New Year’s resolution to knit every sock pattern by Yarnissima, so let’s hope and see!
Again, happy New Year, and much love to all our family and friends!
